A designer at a cluttered desk, blurred in motion

An independent standard
for creative work.

Designers are taught to master the craft, rarely to communicate how their work impacts the business. We exist to close that gap.

Our mission

We exist to close the gap between how creative work looks and what it is worth.

For years, our industry has celebrated how work looks. We share it in feeds, hang it in galleries, and hand out awards for it. Meanwhile, the people who hire designers are quietly asking a different question: what did the work change, and can I trust the person behind it?

That gap costs good designers real opportunities every day, and it costs the most to the ones without a mentor or a network to lean on. Their work is usually not the problem. The problem is that nobody ever showed them how to make the thinking and the value behind it visible.

The Critique was started to change that. We give every designer an honest read of their work, we hold that work to a standard anyone can see, and we bring the people who make hiring decisions into the room with them. Talent will get you noticed, but being understood is what gets you hired.

About us
01Feedback should be useful.
02Evaluation should be thoughtful.
03Recognition should be earned.

What we do

Everything we do answers to one standard.

It starts with a free audit anyone can run in a couple of minutes. From there, it grows into a community where good work gets understood, gets better, and earns recognition.

Site Critique

Site Critique is where The Critique began, and it is still the front door. It reads your portfolio or studio site the way a hiring manager or a prospective client would, which is quickly and with somewhere else to be. Then it tells you, plainly and without flattery, what they are likely to conclude.

  • You’ll see what a visitor decides in two seconds.
  • You’ll get a score across all seven pillars.
  • You’ll know the three changes that matter most.
  • You’ll learn who your site attracts and who it loses.

Critics 2027

We are building a volunteer panel of agency leaders, creative recruiters and senior talent managers. They review real portfolios against the same seven pillars, and bring the kind of judgment that only years of hiring can give you.

The Critique’s Choice

Some sites earn more than a score. The Critique’s Choice honors the ones that communicate their work with clarity, character and care, and a person reviews each one before it is recognized.

The Critique Standard

Polish is worth five points out of a hundred.

We gave the other ninety-five to the questions that actually decide whether a designer gets hired. Is the work clear? Is it credible? Is there proof it made a difference? And is it easy for someone to say yes?

The Critique’s Choice

Excellence deserves
to be seen.

The Critique’s Choice is not a badge you can buy, a popularity contest, or an award that hands itself out. It recognizes sites that are built to win business, and gives independent designers a real chance to be seen by the people who hire. Every recognition is reviewed by a person and shared only with the creator’s permission.
